Known to “set a high standard for nuanced vocal production and comedic timing”, and as “the consummate scene-stealer and provocateur of not a few of the many audience giggles and guffaws that punctuated the performance;” Jennie Litster has been charming audiences with her “coquettish sparkle and suppleness” for years. Recently seen as the Königin der Nacht in ‘Zauberflöte Reloaded’ with the Würzburg Mozart Festival, and in the same role with the Brandenburgisches Concert Orchestra, Ms. Litster has also been touring as one of the Soprano Soloists with ‘Breakin’ Mozart’ throughout Europe.
Opera News recently wrote that Ms. Litster "brought humor and continental charm" to the role of the Opera Singer in the premiere of Where Angels Fear to Tread with Opera San Jose. Other roles include Musetta (La bohème), Adina (L’elisir d’amore), Gilda (Rigoletto), Konstanze (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), and Despina (Cosi fan tutte), Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Blonde in Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Adele in Die Fledermaus, Lisette in La Rondine, and Tytania in A Midsummer Night's Dream. Ms. Litster has performed with Utah Opera, Utah Festival Opera, Opera San Jose, Opera Idaho, Opera San Luis Obispo, Livermore Valley Opera, Cinnabar Opera Theater, Center Stage Opera, and the Ash Lawn Festival Opera. She has appeared on the concert stage the Utah Symphony in Handel's Messiah, the Virginia Consort in Carmina Burana, the Mormon Choral Organization in Messiah in America, the Valparaiso Singers in Brahms Requiem, and the Brigham Young University in Mahler's Symphony No. 2.
Her "spirited performances" and "refined sense of diction and breath-support” have won many competitions over the years. Ms. Litster was named a Utah District Winner and Rocky Mountain Region Finalist for the Metropolitan National Council Auditions, and has been an Arizona District Winner and Finalist at the Regional Level in Los Angeles. Other accolades received include being a finalist for The Irene Dalis Competition, and for the Concorso Lirico International Opera Competition, winning the East Bay Opera League Competition, winning the Classical Singer Magazine's AudComps Emerging Professional Division, receiving a scholarship from the Fé Bland Foundation, and winning the James Schwabacher Jr. award (twice) from the Henry Maria Holt Scholarship Competition.
